Welcome Chimezie Harrison Umeano!

Portrait.

Chimezie Harrison Umeano is a new graduate student in regenerative immunology at Nicholas Leigh’s lab. He has a background in biochemistry and biomedicine and has previously been engaged as a laboratory technician at the Karolinska Institute.

Chimezie is interested in how highly regenerative species like salamanders modulate their immune system to promote regeneration. As a graduate student, his projects entail to understand how salamander immune system affects its limb regeneration and it will employ amongst others, CRISPR screens for various immune cells genes; develop novel salamander-specific antibodies for detection and localisation of regeneration associated proteins; and apply computational based approaches to singularise functions and interactions of salamander immune cells in terms of limb regeneration.

We wish you good luck with your research!
