Opening ceremonies for WCMM in Lund
The Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine at Lund University was officially opened on Monday October 16th. Now five out of 10 young internationally recruited top researchers are in place. Together with researching clinical specialists, they will develop the future's medical treatment methods for several major disease areas.
The Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine (WCMM) at Lund University was officially opened at a Launch Event on Monday October 16th, 2017.
The WCMM is a major national effort to strengthen Swedish molecular medicine research. The investment started in 2015 and now it is time for opening in Lund.
WCMM in Lund is one of four national centers. Behind the investment in Lund is Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation together with the Faculty of Medicine at Lund University and Region Skåne.
"The investment in Lund is unique because we bring together young international researchers with researching clinical specialists, which reinforces our potential for translational research from molecule to man," says Freddy Ståhlberg, director of WCMM in Lund.
The overall purpose of WCMM is to strengthen Swedish molecular research, experimentally and clinically. The focus of the research center in Lund is on regenerative medicine, which is about repairing and restoring lost tissue and function in the body by replacing, constructing or regenerating new human cells that can restore the diseased and injured to normal function. Already ongoing activities within the center include nervous system, hematopoetic system, heart/vasculature system, respiratory system and diabetes.
At the opening ceremonies, internationally recruited researchers and clinical researchers gathered together with invited representatives of the center's financiers.
