Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine

Greetings from the Director

Dear all,
This week the first class at the WCMM Lund Research School finished with a very nice Retreat at Barsebäck! We saw a fantastic fellowship among a new generation of ambitious and driven researchers, on their way to find their place in the scientific community. Indeed, one of WCMM Lund´s most important tasks is also to educate the new generation of researchers. A warm thank you to all of you for your engagement in this Flagship of WCMM Lund! The next step for planning continuation of the Research School is a meeting with its’ coordinators Darcy and Anja to evaluate the first round. Feedback will be given at June 18, at the PI meeting (meeting request and agenda will be sent in a near future).

WCMM Research school retreat

At the Friday Club May seminar Joao Duarte and Cornelis Jan Pronk gave very interesting presentations on diabetes and hematopoietic stem cells, respectively. I am very happy that we have, indeed, initiated and maintain scientific discussions. Lots of win-win with the shared knowledge between your research groups, that can be used and strengthen your projects.

Moreover, related to science, please listen to the TV interview with Elin Trädgårdh, at https://www.svt.se/nyheter/lokalt/skane/nu-ska-ai-gora-varden-battre, ”Så kommer artificiell intelligens att förändra vården”.

At https://www.med.lu.se/wcmm/researchers, please, find the WCMM Lund new homepage that we will fill with interesting news! We suggest communication as an agenda point at the Retreat in August, 2019.

Your personal leadership we continue to support by giving the second mentor program, launched in April 2019. We are very grateful for the enthusiastic and motivated mentors in the program, some of which were mentors also in the first program. This week you have also been invited to the new WCMM Program “Leading in academia: Grow-Stay-Succeed”. Warmly welcome to this new program, where we will have our Dean and Chair of the WCMM Steering group Lund Erik Renström as guest speaker at the first Seminar September 30. We look forward to see you there!

Now, we look forward to our next event, the WCMM Research Day and its´exciting program, where we look forward to inspirational talks from Filipe and Gesine and poster pitching by the presenters, the post-docs and PhD students. This event is one of many activities, together aiming at developing an excellent Centre of Regenerative Medicine at our faculty! The Research Day we end with celebrating our achievements and network at the Summer party!

Finally, we look forward to the PI discussion June 18, where we will reflect on the SAB reports and also decide on a working group for the WCMM PI Retreat in August 2019 and begin discussing its´ agenda. In a foreseeable future we will also have finalized the recruitment phase of the Centre and can really focus on the phase we have just entered – forming a Centre in Regenerative Medicine

Best wishes,
Gunilla
