Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine
Lund University

Greetings from the Director

Dear all,

First, I would like to warmly welcome Niklas Mattsson, our new Wallenberg Molecular Medicine Fellow to WCMM Lund! He will start his position in January 2019.

Thank you all for a very positive meeting Strategy meeting November 12 about WCMM and plan for the future! Lifting the international perspective even further is crucial and putting Regenerative Medicine at Lund University at the global map is important, which we all agreed on. This encourage me! The question now is HOW we develop this in the best way. I would like to point out that we already have begun lifting Regenerative Medicine as a topic both in a research- and education perspective. Indeed, this is reflected in all excellent WCMM publications, grants received and above all the Research School that is impressive in many aspects and which boosts our students to become productive and creative researchers with a drive, critical thinking and curiosity on research in a wider context. The working group of the WCMM and I are full of energy and are planning our WCMM Retreat in January 2019 at YSB in Ystad, and we all together established a solid base for the Centre. The Retreat will focus on the international- and research part of the Centre, and how to advance this even further, for example by developing a Seminar Series that can be linked to the Research School and initial planning of a Conference in Regenerative medicine in 2020. Notably, the Retreat will also give time to get to know each other better to increase new Research interactions in all directions, i.e. translational and between research areas. This is a few thoughts about the Retreat in Ystad.

We have also had a closing ceremony of the first WCMM Mentor program at the Pufendorf Institute. It was very interesting to listen to the participants thoughts about the future and I will try to support you in all ways. Leadership programs give you some time to reflect about yourself, how you are and act both in a smaller and larger context. To learn about your strengths and to develop them further, but at the same time become aware about your weaknesses to be able to understand and handle them. However, the most important is to acknowledge and stand up for a personal leadership that makes you unique both now and in the future. This is important to remember! Look forward to starting up the next WCMM mentor program and the Advanced leadership Seminar Series.

We warmly congratulate Filipe to his coming publication in Science, featured in the cover of Science Immunology.

Soon we will meet at our WCMM Christmas Party at Biskopshuset. Full house and some surprises!

Best wishes,
Gunilla
