The story
The story I want to tell with this art piece is about the complex and varied immune profiles of different women, focusing on the differences in their cytokine levels in serum and follicular fluid. Cytokines are crucial signaling molecules in the immune system that play a key role in inflammation, immune response, and tissue repair. They also influence reproductive health and the overall success of conception.
My artwork, aims to visually represent the diversity in immune profiles across women. I want to convey how cytokine levels— elevated, reduced, or balanced—can influence reproductive success in different ways.
Research area
Sex differences in the immune system through a systems immunology approach.
Impact
Understanding immune profiles of women has the potential to transform fertility treatments and improve healthcare bias. Exploring this can also provide women with more personalized and effective care, improving success rates for treatments like in vitro fertilization. Ultimately, this knowledge can shift societal narratives about women’s health.
Image description
The image compares the levels of 10 cytokines in serum and follicular fluid samples from control and recurrent implantation failure groups. On the left, cytokine levels for the control group are shown, while on the right, levels for the RIF group are depicted. The image represents scaled cytokine concentrations in each sample, highlighting differences between the two groups and providing insights into immune system influences on reproductive success.
