The WCMM Lund IGNITE Postdoc Fellow Program was officially launched with a welcoming dinner on Wednesday, 21 January, marking the start of a new postdoctoral initiative in regenerative medicine. The event gathered WCMM Fellows, clinical researchers, supervisors, IGNITE Fellows and members of WCMM Lund management for an evening focused on connection and collaboration. Set in a relaxed and inspiring atmosphere, the dinner offered participants an opportunity to network, exchange ideas and begin building the relationships that will shape the program’s future.

The Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine (WCMM) at Lund University officially launched its IGNITE Postdoc Fellow Program with a welcoming dinner on Wednesday, 21 January. The event brought together WCMM Fellows, clinical researchers, supervisors, IGNITE Fellows and WCMM Lund management participants to celebrate the start of a new postdoctoral initiative in regenerative medicine. The dinner provided a relaxed and inspiring setting to mingle, network and a chance to get to know each other.

This evening celebrated the arrival of ten postdoctoral fellows who has joined WCMM’s research environment to address key challenges in cell and tissue regeneration. The gathering offered an opportunity for the IGNITE Fellows to meet their mentors, connect with researchers across WCMM and be introduced to the collaborative ecosystem linking Lund University with Region Skåne Hospital.

Funded by the Knut & Alice Wallenberg Foundation, the IGNITE program—short for Interdisciplinary Grants for Novel Innovation and Trainee Education—aims to catalyse translational research that bridges basic science and clinical practice. Each fellow has been paired with a senior WCMM principal investigator and embedded in a translational research project, creating a structured pathway for scientific development, mentorship and leadership training.

“The arrival of the IGNITE Fellows represents a major step forward in WCMM’s mission to nurture young scientific talent at the interface of laboratory discovery and patient care,” said Gunilla Westergren Thorsson, Director of WCMM Lund. “We are delighted to welcome them into our research community and to see this program now fully underway.”

With all ten fellows now in place, the IGNITE Postdoc Fellow Program is fully operational, strengthening collaboration between Lund University and Region Skåne Hospital and further positioning Lund as a leading hub for regenerative medicine research and advanced scientific training.
